The Artistry of Aging
:Had a spell been cast over her? A veil dropped over her so that nothing was very clear. But remember reader she was not aware of how much she was not seeing. Perhaps none of us really are…..”
“We come into this world to be astounded. By the magic, mystery, beauty and pure miracle of our being here. Yet that very purpose is often disrupted by the every day ups and downs of life as a human being. Let’s face it, being human can be a struggle and a rough ride…..”
“The web of connection on this amazing planet we live on has always been there, but perhaps not as much in our awareness as now with the technology we presently possess. Within seconds we can know what is happening on the other side of the world. Granted this can often be a mixed blessing.
But what is apparent more and more is that we are all one “family” connected by the same human needs as well as intimately connected with all other life in nature and the cosmos.”
“It suddenly captured my attention from the sofa where I was seated in the home of a client where I was staying to care for their German Sheppard. Sitting on the mantel absorbing the morning light and radiating out into the room. A simple object that in its simplicity and beauty reminded me of an ancient art piece woven with gold, bronze and light.

“Standing on the wooden walkway at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary my companion saw her first. Long turtle neck stretching up to the sky to soak in the suns rays, her body grounded on the log in the lake water poised amidst the reflections of Fall color….”
“My days are filled with more wonder and awe since I’ve stepped off the fast-paced train supposedly taking me to success and freedom. “Nature is a wise guide in teaching us how we shall spend our time. A reminder that everything is born, unfurled for a period of time…..and then passes it’s essence to the life that is to come. “
The landscape of aging into elderhood. Navigating the terrain is indeed an art. The artistry of finding ones unique way in an unknown never been there before choreographed dance of light and dark, sadness and joy, sickness and health, belonging and aloneness, sacred and mundane, acceptance and rejection…..living and death.
Each one of us walks a unique path….
“The intention of silence and solitude for six days was entered into with a great letting go on January 1, 2023. Little did I know it was to be taken apart. Until then the seeming lengthening of available time in the day, coupled with the freedom to simply be present to each moment, was enhanced by a personal decision to ban all digital or electronic means of connecting or communication.
And then everything changed 2 days later when I happened to check my email…..”
