The Artistry of Aging
“Life in general contains a certain amount of upheaval. Each person chooses their own way of being a positive and engaging presence during dramatic change, challenges, and transformation.
How do we learn to step away from the chaos and find our peaceful center and stillness amidst all the noise? There are always a multitude of unique ways to do so and I have found it takes letting go of the outcome, trust, and courage to honor inner guidance – individual, couple, or group….”
“A book came into my life this week that speaks to “Kokoro” – heart mindfulness. Living from an intelligent heart and feeling mind. A bit of Japanese cultural wisdom to actively live within.
What I am also calling audacious aliveness – fearlessly free, courageous nourishment, embodied wildness, intimate relationship with nature, and at times daring to create our own language free of fear and anxiety, all while cultivating stillness even among great uncertainty.”
“This morning the video that you will find below inspired me to complete this series of Elder Muse postings on “Being the Spark”. Being the spark no matter what age you are.
I believe that as elders we have decades of experiences and wisdom to become the spark that could potentially ignite something as Payton McGriff did with SHE (Style Her Empowered).”
“Throughout most of my life the elders in my village were honored and respected. Without them the community would not have substance or grounding. Vision or wisdom. Rites of passage for the young, or awareness of the life beyond this one.

“As I walked with a friends black lab in the early morning dew and birdsong, surrounded by trees and mountains, I was at one. A gentle reminder that we are nature, made of the same ingredients….inseparable.
How can we not celebrate this wild untamed interconnection?!”
“The letter below touched me deeply this morning as many of the On Being offerings do. It felt timely to share this. I trust that you will pass it on to others to encourage listening in on future and past global conversations plus serving as a catalyst for our own explorations….”
“One day, guided by the dragon that had appeared to him so suddenly, he was walking in the nearby forest and found for the first time a very old elder Oak of 800 years. The instructions were clear. Take off your shoes and bare your soles, and your soul, in the presence of this elder. This oak held wisdom and possibility if he could only listen to the vibrations that transmitted through his bare feet on the earth and his hands on the skin of the tree….”
“We come into this world with a myriad of sensations calling our attention. Throughout our lives we will discover many bodily experiences, some pleasant….and some definitely not. Often the latter is where we dwell.
Yet underneath all of those sensations and experiences lies a miracle of finely tuned and interconnected systems that literally keep us alive and breathing every single moment. “
“Living into and embracing our own aging is an art. I can’t say that I have perfected it but I can say I am aware that every day is an opportunity to explore, discover, be curious, accept the challenges and learn from them.”
