Day 24: Elder Muse – Love Lessons

:In nature…and in life….receiving is reciprocal and woven with giving. What I didn’t grasp in the past is that I was always receiving when I was giving. Yet what would it be like to completely receive without being compelled to give back. Thankfully in my elder years I have surrendered into that experience.”
Day 22: Elder Muse – A Gift of Kindness
“The holiday season is often filled with excess and consumerism. I wonder what it would be like to offer a gift of kindness to each other or to strangers out there who you pass by every day.
Every time I go out into the world there is a practice I attend to most days. I do at least one act of kindness and share laughter with someone. When I saw the post on Good News Network about Captain Sir Thomas Moore I thought it was a great gift to give to you the reader, especially during the holidays.”

“Being an Elder is not defined by age, but rather Elders are recognized because they have earned the respect of their community through wisdom and actions or their teachings; through the vibrancy that radiates out from their presence and the unique artistry that only they can bring into the world.
Let us return to acknowledging elders in the fullest sense of the powerful presence they can be and are becoming. Respecting the life artistry that has been necessary to bring them to where they are today.”

“When we reach elderhood many of us start thinking about and opening into creative pursuits, whether we have been an artist all our lives, dabbled in the arts, or simply felt called to explore. As we reach elderhood many of us start feeling an inner urging to explore and discover through some form of creative expression.”
Day 16: Elder Muse – A Change of Pace
“A little change of pace today! Every day I open myself to see what comes through to send on out to y’all. This morning I was struck by music – the kind that I can’t stay still around.
Knowing that everyone’s choice in music is vastly different I invite you to try on a different genre today. The music of Jon Cleary and The Absolute Monster Gentlemen – New Orleans funk and blues band…. always with SOUL.”

“Have you ever been so immersed in nature that you truly flet you had becme one with it? A conceptual collaborative photography project between Finnish and Norwegian artists Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth started off as a riff on traditional Nordic folklore….and then transformed to individual elders all over the world communing with nature in a way they had most probably never imagined. Becoming the center point – celebrated, valued and seen. …”

Day 8: Elder Muse – The Art of Cursive Writing
“Every morning for many years my writing practice fills 2-3 pages in cursive handwriting using a fountain pen. Nothing fancy, just a 3 ring notebook with lined paper. The ink flowing on the page, the pressure needed, the letters connected together bringing me great pleasure. I am extremely saddened that my grandchildren have never been taught cursive writing as it has been taken out of their schools. Everything they do is digital.”
Day 7: Elder Muse – Embracing Moments
“As I took in the poem I realized that instead of expanding awareness in that moment it felt like a spiritual admonishment of sorts. Glancing over at the plant stand in my bedroom I spied a bumper sticker that I keep there which says “Don’t Postpone Joy”.
The use of “do not” makes me feel a little like a child that is being told to please wake up and listen or tend to the moment more fully. That I simply wasn’t adhering to the precepts for Conscious Life 101, especially as a supposedly wiser elder.”
